3D printing is great for prototypes and smaller batches, but as quantities grow, or the geometry requires it, other manufacturing methods are often more efficient. That's why we now offer package solutions that combine 3D printing with injection molding and thermoforming — so you get the right technology at every stage of your product development.
When does injection molding make sense?
Injection molding is the obvious choice when you need to produce larger quantities with consistent quality. We're typically talking about runs of 500 units and up, where the cost per part drops significantly compared to 3D printing. The range of materials is broader, and the surface requires minimal post-processing.
Many of our customers start with a 3D printed prototype and then move on to injection molding once the design is approved. This gives a fast, affordable development cycle.
Thermoforming for larger parts
Thermoforming is ideal for larger, thin-walled parts such as panels, covers, and packaging components. The process is faster to set up than injection molding and requires cheaper tooling, making it well suited to mid-sized runs.
How the package solution works
Our package solution covers the entire process:
- Idea and design — we help with 3D design and adapting it to the chosen production method
- Prototype — a fast 3D printed prototype in the material that best simulates the final product
- Production — injection molding or thermoforming with professional quality control
- Post-processing — painting, airbrushing, or other finishing as needed
